Bronze, Clay, sawdust, smoke (W56cm x D56cm x H40cm) |
With climate change, places with frequent drought are getting even
dryer whilst flooding continues to threaten both rural and urban areas.
Even in our own locale, what used to be a flooding event once a decade
has been happening as frequently as every two years since the Millenium
in some places such as Perth and Elgin.
Flow draws our attention to this intensifying phenomenon.
The smoke-fired clay vessel represents the ever-changing atmosphere
whilst the smaller bronze sphere symbolizes our planet and the on-going
human activity within it that is often at odds with our eco-system.
The juxtaposition of two opposite material qualities - the durability
of bronze against the fragility of clay - creates anxiety and tension.
