A Belly-Full of Only Rain
2011

In this joint exhibition at the Hannah Maclure Centre, University of Abertay Dundee, visual artist Fanny Lam Christie and poet Dawn Wood explore the relationship of mythological and earthly creatures with natural materials and water flow.  The exhibition features poems, prints and paintings by Dawn Wood, and sculptures by Fanny Lam Christie.

Transition  considers the future of the hidden streams in Dundee.  The work presents a vision in which people from different sectors work together to restore a hidden water source to its natural open condition.  The work is installed with the poem 'Dragon'.

Meandering III  features a curtain of fallow deer antlers to suggest a herd grazing, unaware of being targeted by the hunter.  The installation is a response to the poem The Silver Stag.

Leap III  focuses on the flow of the salmon's movement as it struggles upstream on its homeward journey.  The poem 'Wellspring of Material Shadows' is about the language of materials used in Leap III.

The title is from 'Transition Management' in the publication SWITCH by Chris Jefferies and Alison Duffy referring to a strategy where urban water systems are evaluated to influence a long term sustainable vision for urban water management.
